District Down is defined, music for the people. The band is made of four individuals:
former Tha Ruckus front man Chris Avery, along with new comers to the scene Troy
Pope (Guitars), Jeremy McMahan (Drums), and Sean Ayres (Bass). The band has
currently just completed its first studio recording consisting of four songs: Feel,
Love/Hate, Expo Slave and Self-Resistance.
District Down began when Chris Avery (Vocalist) was searching for a new guitarist for
Tha Ruckus. Chris obtained Troys number from a friend at a local music store. After an
audition for Tha Ruckus, Troy was asked to join the band. During a three-month writing
process, Chris and Troy became disgruntled with lack of focus of the other members and
decided it was time for a change.
Troy called on long-term friend and drummer Jeremy McMahan. Jeremy had the style and
focus the band was looking for. The band started jamming, coming up with different riffs
and sounds that eventually developed into songs. We were still playing as a three piece.
The band needed one more ingredient to complete the recipe, a bass player. Since the
rest of the band was from diverse backgrounds, the band wanted to continue to be different.
Troy and Jeremy were influenced by big rock acts like Led Zeppelin, Kiss, and Metallica.
Rock and rap is what influenced Chris. The bass player needed to be different but solid to fill
the gap of one guitar player.
Jeremy crossed paths with a high school friend named Tracy Ayres. Tracys husband was in
a band that covered music like Phish and The Grateful Dead. After Seans audition, he was
asked to join the band.
District Down is complete and has been writing and rehearsing since May of 2002. The band
will continue to push the limits to achieve the goals and dreams that started District Down.
